Corrosion – Corrosion protection

Corrosion, comes from the Latin language “corrodere”. This means eaten up, decomposed or eroded.

Technically speaking, corrosion is the reaction of a material with its environment. It causes a measurable change in the material.

This can lead to an impairment of the function of a component or system.

Probably the best known type of chemical corrosion of metals is rusting, i.e. the oxidation of iron.

Corrosive agents are the substances that surround the component, act on the material and cause corrosion.

Therefore, corrosion protection is extremely important.
